HRC-SD members join protest at Manchester

Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to give the Keynote Address for the International Franchise Association's 49th Annual Convention, being held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. Unite Here Local 30 and other local labor and LGBT groups have planned a rally for February 15, from 11 AM - 1 PM at the Manchester, as part of a continuing boycott. Members of San Diego HRC plan to attend in support of labor and marriage equality.

Since 2006, employees of the Manchester have held protests against working conditions. Later, the hotel owner, Doug Manchester, gave $125,000 toward the passage of Proposition 8, the measure that eliminated the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in California. In 2008, members of the San Diego labor movement and LGBT community called for a boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The boycott has been sanctioned or honored by the San Diego Labor Council and the CA State AFL-CIO. Multiple organizations have cancelled events at the Manchester in support of the action.
